deep into paradise cell phone coverANNOUNCING NEW CELL PHONE CASES:

As an artist, you always want to see your best work printed on things.

Unfortunately, most of the retailers these days are ultra conservative and are reluctant to print some of my best images, because they are too “edgy.”

But not this time – I’m happy to announce that I have teamed up with Head Case to print some of my best and favorite images on cell phone cases and wallets.

Their cases are priced really well – you can see all of my designs here:

If you do order your Brophy Head Case, let me know in the comments below.  It will make me happy to know that some of you like it enough to put on your phone!

Locals-PaintingSometimes just a simple painting on an old surfboard can brighten someone’s outlook on life.   Art can change lives and broaden perspectives.  And sometimes a kid will paint for the first time, and realize that they love it.  It can be a life-changing event.

That’s why when I travel I like to spend a few days with the local groms, showing them how to paint their own surfboards and skateboards.  (The last time was in Puerto Escondido).  This year, I’m going to Sayulita, Mexico, a little surfing town.  Maria and I will give a free painting workshop for kids (and adults).  All supplies are being donated by some of the great companies we work with (named below).

WHEN:  Friday, June 17, 2016  1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

WHERE:  ULA, Marlin 8, Sayulita, Mexico

WHAT:  Posca Paint Pen workshop – learn how to paint your stuff with paint pens.  I’ll also have plenty of Fredrix Canvas boards to paint on.

THANKS TO:   My friends at Posca for giving us all the paint pens we will need for this event.  Also, Fredrix Canvas generously donated a large supply of canvas boards.  And, my favorite shoe company, KEEN, donated plenty of goodies to give out as well.

Blog post and pictures will follow when we return.  It will be fun.

Sacred Geometry Art:  Where Ancient Knowledge Meets Modern Art

WELCOME TO MY STUDIO!

This month marks 20 years of my art business in San Clemente!

In 1996 I came to town with only a dream.  Now, all these years later, Maria and I have built a solid business in this wonderful community.

This weekend we are opening the studio up to the public, to release new fine modern art paintings and also to make available surf style paintings from the past year that we have not previously released.

EXPLORE SACRED GEOMETRY THROUGH MODERN ART
Inspired by nature and physics, my new “Exploring Sacred Geometry” series of paintings articulate a Universal Language of nature, mathematics, and vibration.

DATE/TIME:  Saturday and Sunday April 23rd and 24th, 2015,  From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

LOCATION:  208 Calle de Los Molinos Suite D, San Clemente, CA 92672  Phone 949-678-8133

If you ever wanted to get one of my original paintings, now is the time to do it.  The prices of my originals have been steadily rising.  The new modern / abstract art I’ve been painting has increased in value and price by almost double since last year.   I offer special discounts to current collectors and so be sure to ask me for your discount if you already own a piece of my art.

What to expect at my Studio Open House:

1 – On Exhibit and for sale for the first time:  New surf style art paintings, abstracts, and Sacred Geometry artworks.

2 – Limited, signed and numbered limited edition prints and new fine canvas board art prints never before available.

3 – Great conversation and a “tour” of my studio.  I’ll be glad to get to know you.

ALSO: See on exhibit the original paintings for the upcoming OHANA FESTIVAL (commissioned by Eddie Vedder) and the SUBLIME with Rome album art, commissioned by the band themselves!

Please know that I appreciate your business – it’s our fans and friends that help keep us in business.  My family and I are forever grateful to you.

We hope to see you there!

If you have any questions at all, please text or call 949-678-8133 or email mariab@drewbrophy.com.

Do you ever wonder if what you’re doing is good enough?

A young Artist asked for my advice on how to find her style.
She wanted to know how I developed my own painting style.

My answer to her is one that we can apply to just about anything we do in life.

This is what I told her:

When I was young and trying to make a living as a surf artist and a surfboard painter, I painted a lot.  Every day I produced new work.

I painted what I wanted to paint, even when other people didn’t like it.

I didn’t try to please anyone with my paintings. Many people didn’t get what I was doing.  I thought they were nuts that they didn’t get it.  (And they thought I was nuts.)

In the beginning, I tried to get people excited about the paintings I was doing, but most didn’t respond.

There was an entire world of people who didn’t respect or understand what I was doing.  It wasn’t good enough for galleries or even surf shops at one point.  I was turned down by almost every single surfboard maker in the early years, because they didn’t understand my art.

I was constantly rejected but I didn’t stop doing it.

I felt insecure, but I didn’t let it stop me.  I put my head down and just kept going.  Creating what I was driven to create.

Then one day some people started to like what I was doing.
Eventually, more and more people liked it.

My style became popular, and now decades after all the rejection, people copy it all over the world.

My advice: Do what you want.  Paint, draw, create a lot. Every day.

Paint for yourself and see what develops.

Don’t do what other people do and don’t do what other people tell you to do, not unless you really want to.  Be stubborn.

Don’t do things just because they have always been done that way.  Do things your own way.

Do what draws you in and what keeps your interest the most. Don’t worry about other people’s opinions.

No matter what you do, someone is going to love it, and someone is going to hate it.  Find the people who love it.

Experiment with a lot of things.  Be patient. Let it develop. It may take months or years to find your style and it will constantly evolve and progress.

Just keep creating art.

I hope this helps all those people out there who aren’t sure if what they are doing is good enough.  It is.  Just keep doing it.

Life is Good – Drew

P.S.  Are you struggling with with going against the grain?  Or doing things your own way?  Please leave a comment on this post, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
