Drew's Pirate in Glass by Kyle Hunter Goodwin

One of the greatest things about growing older is you get to witness your friends becoming successful and growing in their craft.  It’s fun to reminisce about where you came from and how far you’ve come.

Kyle Hunter Goodwin is someone that we’ve watched hone his talent through the years.  His glass works have become more detailed, refined and beautiful as time passes.

We got to know Kyle  many years ago when we were planning the Sea Monster Ball.  It was a group art show, curated by me and Drew, and put on at the very beautiful ocean front Ocean-Institute.

We asked Kyle to be one of the artists exhibiting and he flew out from Florida to join us.  Since then, we’ve all come a long way in our careers, and we’ve kept in touch.

Recently Kyle asked if he could take one of Drew’s pirate paintings and re-create it in glass.  Of course, we were ecstatic at the idea!

It’s amazing how Kyle could take Drew’s painting (below) and create this beautiful glass piece from that.  It’s for sale, you can buy it by contacting Kyle directly at 352-213-3998.

Darin and Lisa McClure in front of the Great Wall O' Sketches

Last Saturday we held a “Draw with Drew” event and book release celebration party at San Clemente Art Supply.

It took many hours and some pocket money to put this on, because Drew wanted to create an awesome interactive presentation of art exhibit combined with art activities.

And of course, I felt it was important to have beer and juice boxes alongside some great food!  (What, you’ve never heard of juice boxes at an art event?!)

Drew set up an awesome (more…)

How to Draw Waves – Phil Roberts Demonstrates

philroberts_wave3Phil Roberts calls himself a “surf artist”, but I like to refer to him as the Modern Day Da Vinci.  He’s extremely gifted in the creating of art, particularly with human figures.  Drew is always amazed at how well, and easily, Phil can depict the human figure.  Phil’s taken that extreme talent into drawing waves and (more…)

Raglan Surf Co. Painting Demo and the Beauty of Raglan

raglan-surf-coWe had a busy afternoon at Raglan Surf Co. – a great surf shop in the heart of town.  When we set the date for this event, no-one was aware that it was the same day as a car show and festival in town!  But, it all worked out.

One thing we noticed in Raglan – the surfers who live here are PASSIONATELY devoted to their surf break.  “You don’t need to go anywhere else, mate.  The best waves in New Zealand are right here” we kept hearing again and again.

You can see why – Raglan Point is (more…)

Elements Tour Update

After successfully completing the first stage of the journey through southern California and the Pacific Coast of Northwestern Mexico, “Baby” is fired back up and ready to start the second leg of the tour. Seth Warren and his team designed their nature propelled renewable energy tour to follow the water cycle of the earth. The first part of this cycle started in the oceans with the currents, tides and waves being essential to fulfilling their hybrid lifestyle of educating kids about the importance of renewable energy, promoting sustainability and having fun playing in the surf. Learn all about it at http://www.naturepropelled.com/

Lunch Bag Art

Be sure to check out The Lunchbots. Justin was inspired to create his impulsive “disposable art” after watching Drew’s Paint Pen Techniques DVD and using the vibrant colored Posca Pens. It’s creativity like this that is getting him noticed and will jump start himself into a whole new world.
