Drew’s always telling people to paint their own stuff and customize their lives.  Converse shoes are a great way to do that.  And of course, if you want Drew’s art on your shoe, now you can have it.

When Drew was a kid, he’d doodle dragons and waves on his Chuck Taylor All Stars.  His friends wanted him to draw on theirs, too.

This collaboration started almost 3 years ago when Converse sponsored our video PAINT PEN TECHNIQUES WITH DREW BROPHY.  A section in the video shows how to paint your shoe with water-based paint pens.  That led to a brainstorming about putting Drew’s art on production shoes.  Drew came up with a couple dozen designs (see the photo above) and they chose a number to move ahead with.

The collection is available at Converse retailers nationwide, including Journey’s, select Nordstrom locations and Converse.com.

Check this out:  Converse’s super cool blog features many different artists.  TALK interviewed Drew and featured a

Yin Yang Indo Board - Artwork (c) Drew Brophy

Yin Yang Indo Board - Artwork (c) Drew Brophy

Drew and I went to the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) Trade show last week in San Diego.  Like every trade show, you run into so many people that you haven’t seen in awhile – at least not since the last trade show.

We talked to friends that are retailers, manufacturers, photographers and writers.  The first question most of these people asked was “What have you been up to, Drew?  Got anything new going on?”

And we realized that we have been doing a lousy job of getting the word out on all the new things we have going on. (more…)

Pinstriping and Kustom Graphics Mag – Graffitti Feature of Van Painting

Pinstriping and Kustom Graphics Magazine did a feature on Drew’s painting of one of the Escape Camper Vans.  (Buy your copy here.)

We were stoked about the article, however, they omitted photo credit to Michael R. Foley, who took all of the amazing photos.  So we are giving Mike his credit due right here!

Orange Coast Mag Covers Surf Artists

orange-coast-mag-may-09-wpThanks to Jason Wallis, a photographer and surfer transplanted from New Zealand, some of the local Orange County Surf Artists got full page press with Orange Coast Magazine’s May 2009 Issue.

Artists shown in this photographic surf art feature include Rob Havassey, Drew Brophy, Ed Templeton, Rick Rietveld and Phil Roberts.

The artists were photographed by Jason Wallis on their own turf, and then given a copy of their photo to have their artistic way with it.  It’s interesting to see what each artist did with their own photo……
