Hurley US Open of Surfing – Drew Spray Paint Demo at Sacred Craft Booth

The Hurley U.S. Open of Surfing was crazy, as usual.

When I say Crazy, I mean, tons of almost-naked girls walking around, tatted up bodies everywhere and just plain old debauchery!

But, we had one mission there, and that was to show an audience at the Sacred Craft Booth how easily you can dress up your surfboard with spray paints and paint pens.

Somehow, Drew got roped into painting flowers on girls, and after about the 4th one, I had to put a stop to it because they were lining up! (We were thirsty, we would have been there all day….)

Afterwards, we gave out about 100 of our $18.00 art prints and stickers and Drew signed autographs and was interviewed by a t.v. crew.

The weather was hot, so an ice cold beer at Surfline.com’s party afterwards was greatly appreciated!

Sacred Craft Surfboard Expo drew huge crowd again!

The Sacred Craft Consumer Surfboard Expo stepped it up huge for their 2nd annual event. Held on October 11 & 12, 2008 at the Wyland Exhibit Hall, a much larger venue from last year, they added more big name characters and popular shapers to their seminar list. Even surf icon Gerry Lopez showed up today!

With a stellar introduction by the surf industry’s greatly respected Sam George, Drew’s demonstration drew over 100 people again this year, and some fans came from as far as San Francisco to get themselves educated on paint pen techniques. Planet X TV was on the scene, filming the demo. Check out the photos here:

Ricky Carroll won the “shape off” for the 2nd year in a row, though we were rooting for Ron House (see the board above), we couldn’t have lost to a greater guy!

We had a great time at K-Coast yesterday (Sat June 14th). Drew’s painting demo drew a great crowd of people who came to watch him paint and ask him questions….oh, and to get some free stuff!

Ocean City MD is one of my old stomping grounds from back in the day. It was great hanging with Chris and Mark “hairball” – they are awesome and the best part – they have just about every product of Drew’s in their store – the sunscreen, the posters, and a great deal of t-shirts. Oh, and of course the DVD’s.

An artist named AJ came and Drew put him to work helping him to paint the shop board that Drew was painting for K Coast. AJ has some crazy dreads in his hair. He was stoked to help…..
