Jose, thanks for your question – I use Krylon or Kiltz spray can primer on guitars and just about anything else.  It’s quick & easy.  You can find both of these primers in any hardware store.

What pricing policies do you have in place for your art business?  The way you answer the following question will determine if you treat your business like a business or if it’s just a hobby:  When someone asks you “how much will it cost for me to commission you to ___________ (you fill in the blank), do you say:

  1. 1.)  Ummmm, I’m not sure, let me see, ummm, how about $xx.xx?
  2. 2. ) Here’s my price sheet
  3. 3.) Let me find out more about the project, and then I’ll crunch some numbers and get you a quote.

After several "no's" this became a "yes"

Have you ever had a brilliant idea, or a great plan, that is just perfect for a potential client?  Completely excited, you contact them and say “I’ve got this great thing for you – you’re going to love it!”   And they say “No”!

They don’t buy it.  And you’re frustrated – either they don’t get it, or their budget is too low, etc.   Years ago Drew approached Wham O’ with a proposal to do a line of Drew Boogie Boards for kids.  He knew that they had trouble getting their kids boards into core surf shops, and he also knew that his art would open those doors for them.  But they said “no”.  And then one year later, he tried again.  They said “no”.   But the third time was a charm – read on:  (more…)
