The painting of a Helmet<\/p><\/div>\n

Scylla <\/a>wrote in that she bought the Paint Pen Techniques DVD <\/a>but wants more detail on painting a helmet.\u00a0 Here are her questions and my answers:<\/p>\n

1. Do you sand it first? With what?<\/strong><\/span> You gotta knock the gloss off of it so I sand the helmet with 400 to 600 grit paper.\u00a0 Make sure you get all the glossy spots off.<\/div>\n

2. What do you prime it with<\/strong><\/span>? If the helmets white, you don’t need to prime it.\u00a0 Otherwise I’d get a spray primer, there are a lot of brands to choose from.\u00a0 Krylon has a flat white primer that I like.<\/div>\n

3. After applying then design do you clear coat it?<\/strong><\/span> Yes, but it depends on what kind of finish you want, and how much money and time you want to spend.\u00a0 The helmet in the video I sprayed it with Polyurethane.\u00a0 I sprayed it many times.\u00a0 If you want a killer finish, you have to spray it over and over and over again.<\/div>\n

4. Anything else I should know?<\/strong><\/span> It’s all about the experiment.\u00a0 You have to try a lot of different things to learn what works best.\u00a0 Don’t be scared, just go for it!<\/div>\n
