So Cal Magazine is geared towards travelers, and it aims to show the Southern California “extreme fun” way of life.<\/p>\n So Jim Kirkwood, the magazine’s Editor and founder, asked me to paint something that would show the fun lifestyle we live here in So Cal.<\/p>\n Most of the covers of So Cal Magazine usually are a beautiful photograph of a local spot or activity. \u00a0But this time Jim really went “outside the box” by putting my colorful art on it.<\/p>\n I’m stoked when my clients aren’t afraid to do something different!<\/p>\n Coming up with the concept always takes the most time for me. \u00a0Once I have the sketch nailed down, the painting part is easy – it’s just putting in the time, drinking Yerba Mate and listening to the same music over and over again until it’s done.<\/p>\n When the painting was finished, I dropped it off at my buddy Gary at Chroma Concepts and had it scanned, then sent the digital file over to So Cal Magazine.<\/p>\n THE WEDGE (c) Drew Brophy 36" x 24" <\/p><\/div>\n Then I framed the original painting so I could sell it.<\/p>\n The painting is named THE WEDGE, based on the famed surf spot in Newport Beach. \u00a0The original painting is sized 36″ x 24″ on Canvas, painted with acrylics and paint pens.<\/p>\n THE WEDGE Giclee print on canvas is available for purchase in my Store Here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The original painting was purchased by Tim Smith, one of my regular collectors. \u00a0Now, THE WEDGE will be joining NEPTUNE <\/a>in it’s new home.<\/p>\n Life is Good – Drew<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Magazines need a great cover if anyone’s going to open it up. \u00a0I’m glad I was asked to create the artwork for So Cal Magazine’s cover for this issue.
