“Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years.\u00a0 We grow old by deserting our ideals.\u00a0 Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.” \u00a0<\/em>~Samuel Ullman<\/p>\n

Today I turned 41.<\/p>\n

This time last year I was surfing awesome waves at Pipeline for my fortieth birthday.<\/p>\n

Today, I’m celebrating at home.<\/p>\n

I wanted to share a few things I\u2019ve discovered throughout my 41 years:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. BUSINESS<\/strong>:\u00a0 You have to constantly adapt to the ever-changing world.\u00a0 It seems like about ten years ago everything started changing super fast. \u00a0\u00a0Things that we did last year that worked, aren\u2019t working now.\u00a0 Maria<\/a> and I have to constantly change what we\u2019re doing to adapt.<\/li>\n
  2. THE<\/strong> EARTH<\/strong>:\u00a0 Needs more respect.\u00a0 There\u2019s no one thing we can do to respect it more; there has to be a total change in the way we treat the earth.<\/li>\n
  3. SURFING<\/strong>:\u00a0 It\u2019s pure joy.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to be like my friend Gary Linden<\/a>, surfing big waves when I\u2019m in my sixties. \u00a0Quality over Quantity!<\/li>\n
  4. MONEY<\/strong>:\u00a0 Is always coming and going.<\/li>\n
  5. GOD<\/strong>:\u00a0 The concept of God is kind of abstract; is there really a man-like being standing \u201cup there\u201d?\u00a0 I think it\u2019s more like a Universal Energy.<\/li>\n
  6. HEALTH<\/strong>:\u00a0 Move or Die!\u00a0 (I think there\u2019s company named that)\u00a0 Stay active.\u00a0 Eat less.<\/li>\n
  7. ART<\/strong>:\u00a0 It\u2019s just another way to convey an idea.\u00a0 It can be deep and meaningful, making art.\u00a0 I just try to make people happy with it.<\/li>\n
  8. FAMILY<\/strong>:\u00a0 Is the best part of life.\u00a0\u00a0 Makes you feel like you\u2019re not alone.<\/li>\n
  9. MARRIAGE<\/strong>:\u00a0 Is better than being single.<\/li>\n
  10. HAPPINESS<\/strong>:\u00a0 The happiest<\/a> part of my day is walking Dylan over the bridge and to his classroom.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>It\u2019s as simple as that.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
