The BIG Drive East – Swamps and Tropical Storms

surf-expo-drive-day-2-and-3-and-4-032We gave ourselves 4 days to get to Florida for our SURF EXPO ART EXHBIIT, but powered on day 2 and made it to Destin, Florida (the panhandle) on Day 3.

So we were able to relax for a day and enjoy the Emerald Coast – sugar white sand, warm waters, oh, and a tropical storm overhead!

Almost ran out of gas somewhere in Louisiana – we were sweating it and freaking out that we’d be stuck in the middle of no-where on the side of the road.  Then, there was a rinky dink little sign that said “Bob’s Gas 1-1/2 miles” – we made it on FUMES.  When we filled up the 25 gallon tank, it took 24.88 gallons – now that’s cutting it close!

This morning, we’ll paddleboard before leaving for Orlando – another 6-1/2 hour drive.  There are little waves here, and the water’s crystal clear and warm.

Here are photos of the drive East:

Hey Destin is my kneck of the woods… I make it a point to get down there at least twice a year. When I was a kid we used to have a family reunion there around easter every year. But that was before they built all the condos. Nothing but miles of pristine white sand, beautiful emerald green water and sea oats EVERYWHERE! Check out Old Bay Steamers over the bridge in Ft. Walton for some good eats.
    Drive safe,
    Josh

You drove right through my old kicking ground in Lousy-ana. First Metairie and then Slidell. Bob’s Fillin’ Station was probably a nicer place to stop.

Happy that you are moving right along.

Check out Surfline for the new Paintshop Vid!
