Painting Story – MIOCEAN

Painting Story – MIOCEAN

This is, by far, one of my favorite Uni-Posca paint pen surfboard paintings.

It was a commissioned piece by Paul Sampedro, for the charity MiOcean.

The surfboard painting was auctioned off last year at their annual event at St. Regis Resort in Dana Point.

The painting depicts a giant sandcastle  with Maria in the window holding a torch, and our son Dylan looking through a telescope at the top.

I’m the guy surfing in the tube, alongside giant kelp and fish.  The sun is exploding on the horizon.

A water molecule is painted at the top of the nose.  This water molecule symbolizes all life.

This board was a collaboration with my good friend, master shaper Ron House.  It was a work of art before it was even painted.

I love this painting because it includes all of my favorite things;  my family, waves and the ocean.

And I think the painting itself came out really good…

That is just pure genius. The colours mess with my head like a drug. Every single element is polished and I love it. I love the thought behind the water element. At first I thought it was a graphical treatment of a mickey mouse logo but it is really deep and thoughtful. Love it.
