19 Feb Raglan Surf Co. Painting Demo and the Beauty of Raglan
We had a busy afternoon at Raglan Surf Co. – a great surf shop in the heart of town. When we set the date for this event, no-one was aware that it was the same day as a car show and festival in town! But, it all worked out.
One thing we noticed in Raglan – the surfers who live here are PASSIONATELY devoted to their surf break. “You don’t need to go anywhere else, mate. The best waves in New Zealand are right here” we kept hearing again and again.
You can see why – Raglan Point is
an amazing break, even on small days, it has endless peeling lines and loooonnngg left hand rides. The paddle out is easy, and the view is breathtaking. If it was in California, about 500 people would be at the point. Here, only about 10-15 at any given time.
Drew painted a board for Raglan Surf Co. and enlisted the help of DeDe, an artist from France who is traveling and wants to paint surfboards in Australia. In usual fashion, Drew put others to work on the painting as well – Craig, the owner, and his kids Nat and Ariel. Craig and his kids are all artists themselves – a talented family!
It was a hot day, and Craig brought some beers afterwards and all was well. Afer that, Drew and family headed for Waitomo, to do some splunking…..
Check out the photos below from Raglan Surf.
(As an aside, days after leaving Raglan, Drew was regretting leaving Raglan. It was the best surf we’ve seen so far….)

Posted at 13:12h, 04 SeptemberHey,
I left a message on your voicemail about the mural, in front of the shop (underneath the quicksilver sign). I would love to have closer picture from the mural.
I would like to use it as inspiration for a surf tattoo
Thank a million,
