Lighthouse by Drew Brophy Nov 2013HATTERAS LIGHTHOUSE paint pen on canvas board sized 11″ x 14″, Medium:  Uni Posca Paint Pens.

The lighthouse in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, was a part of my life as a young surfer.

I lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a six hour drive south from Buxton, NC at the time, and in Myrtle Beach, the waves are small.

So, when the waves got big in Hatteras, my friends and I would make the drive north.

We had many great surf sessions in front of this lighthouse in Buxton.

Since then, the lighthouse was moved off the sand to another spot.

This painting reflects my memories of back in the day, when the lighthouse was a beacon to all surfers when the waves got big.

This painting went to a couple who have a house in Buxton.  I hope they love it.

LOVE SHACK by Drew Brophy 8x10 Canvas Board 20x20 Series Oct 2013 sFOR 20 CONSECUTIVE DAYS, I’M CREATING 20 ORIGINAL ART PIECES that reflect my thought process and where my ideas originate from.

I’m painting from the heart, just having fun with it.

You might love ’em, you might hate ’em, but either way, I hope they invoke a feeling for you.

This Painting is #18 of 20 in this #20×20 Series, titled LOVE SHACK , 8″ x 10″ on Canvas Board, medium Uni Poscas Paint Pens.

My 20 Paintings in 20 Days had a hiccup on Friday, when we left town to go camping and paddleboarding for 3 days.

There wasn’t a working wifi connection where we were (there was supposed to be, but it didn’t work.)

Before getting on the road, I was running around like crazy tying up loose ends and getting obligations taken care of.

This painting, LOVE SHACK, was the vision of what I was wishing I was doing instead of the last minute hustle before leaving.

Do you like LOVE SHACK?  Leave me some feedback in the comments, please.  Your feedback is very important to me.

Today’s Painting is the 11th of 20 in this #20×20 Series, titled FEELING HAPPY,  18″ x 24″ on Canvas.

This morning when I walked into my studio,  I turned on some music, and I was feeling happy.  I wasn’t sure yet what I was going to paint for the day.  Then I noticed among the mess in my painting room, a sketch on a canvas that I had started years ago.  I have a lot of those sketches laying around.

It was just a rough sketch in pencil, and everything in it was smiling; the sun, the mountains, the water, everything.  Since I was feeling so happy, I felt that these happy guys deserved to be brought to life today.

Hope they make you happy, too!

Life is Good,

Drew

Today’s Painting is the 5th of 20, titled THE PIER,  11″ x 14″ on Canvas board, medium Uni Posca Paint Pens.

It’s Saturday, and I thought I’d go down to the pier in San Clemente to paint today’s painting.  I sat under the palapa on the beach and painted while friends came by to watch and say hello.

Today reminded me of a fall day.  The weather is changing and it made me think of the North West swells that will soon begin to filter in.  That’s when San Clemente pier really lights up; the right going into the pier turns into a big tube while the current pushes you away.  I can’t wait for those days to start!

Within 5 minutes of posting a photo of this painting in progress on Facebook, we got an email from Maria’s friend Kat.  She bought it before it was even finished.  That’s having faith in the process.

Please, leave me a comment and let me know what you think of this painting.
