45 of 50 Paint Studies in 50 Days BANZAI PIPELINE GREATEST SHOW ON SURF by Drew Brophy Dec 9 2015FOR 50 DAYS, I’M CREATING 50 PAINT STUDIES that reflect 50 things that fascinate me.

This is #45 of 50 in the #50Paintings Paint Studies series.  Only 6 left to go!

TITLE: BANZAI PIPELINE, GREATEST SHOW ON SURF

SIZE:  11″x 14″ paint pen on Fredrix Pro Archival Canvas Board.

This time of year, each year, they hold the Pipeline Masters Surf Contest on the North Shore of Oahu.

Pipeline is one of my favorite waves to surf. I used to live right in front of the break and surfed it every day.

It’s a critical wave, super dangerous, but so perfect. And as a spectator, it’s the best show on surf.

This painting study is available – SOLD to Aaron of Salem, OR.  It’s his first original piece of my work.

One of my goals with this series is to make original art affordable for those who want it.   If interested in adding tomorrow’s to your collection, please email info@drewbrophy.com or text or call 949-678-8133 asap!

I was inspired to paint this after seeing the swell forecast for this week.  The Northern Pacific ocean is about to turn into a monster.

Huge waves are coming.

38 of 50 Paint Studies CHASING WAVES WITH FUDO by Drew Brophy Dec 2 2015FOR 50 DAYS, I’M CREATING 50 PAINT STUDIES that reflect 50 things that fascinate me.

This is #38 of 50 in the #50Paintings Paint Studies series.

TITLE:  CHASING WAVES WITH FUDO

SIZE:  11″x 14″ paint pen on Fredrix Pro Archival Canvas Board.

Today’s painting is inspired by the idea of being on a boat, chasing waves, in far away places.

I added something different in the sky, inspired by my good friend Mark Longenecker (well known tattoo artist from Cocoa Beach, FL, and InkMasters TV Show star).

Mark was painting alongside me this morning, creating his own version of the Japanese Diety called FUDO.  So I added FUDO into my sky.

FUDO is said to convert anger into compassion and cuts the ties of negative feelings to liberate us from the suffering through self control.

This painting study is available – SOLD to Elsie in Mission Viejo, CA.

MUSHROOM 7 of 50 Paintings in 50 Days by Drew Brophy Nov 1 2015FOR 50 DAYS, I’M CREATING 50 PAINT STUDIES that reflect 50 things that fascinate me.

You might love ’em, you might hate ’em, but either way, I hope they invoke a feeling for you.

This painting is #7 of 50 in the #50Paintings series:

Titled MUSHROOMS– 8″x 10″ paint pen on Fredrix Pro Series Archival Canvas Board.

Mushrooms have always fascinated me.  How they pop up out of the grass in the early morning as a little group of friends.  But what’s more amazing is what we can’t see, under the ground; a huge collective of fungi, all connected as one, under the earth.

But what’s more interesting about this paint study is what happened after it was bought.

Tyler Watkins, a long-time friend and collector of my art, saw the first preview picture, while it was still just a rough sketch with little color on it.  He bought it, not knowing how it would end up looking.  After seeing a picture of it nearly finished, he sent this text:

Tyler's childhood mushroom and frog!

Tyler’s childhood mushroom and frog!

I didn’t know about the frog in the painting.  I love it.  I grew up with a bedroom set that I still use in my home that had a mushroom and frog on it.  It’s always been my favorite.

Drew wouldn’t have known this but it’s so cool that the painting is turning out to nearly match the dresser set.  It was meant to be…talk about faith in the process, wow!

That’s so cool.  And it makes me so happy when friends are stoked on this series.  Thanks Tyler.  Hope you love it.
